How to Conserve Heat in Your Home

Ah, yes…winter in New Jersey. Time for everyone to cuddle up inside around the fireplace, read stories, drink brandy, and smile at each other while the dog rests…That’s not really how it works, is it? Let me tell you a couple ideas on how to conserve energy in your home during the next long winter.

It WOULD be nice if the above scenario played out all winter – and sometimes it DOES – but the reality is that most of us are always thinking about that heat bill, and wondering how we’re going to pay it next month.

First of all, only use ONE door next winter, and have it be the FRONT door, or at least one that you can monitor from where you usually are. That way, you can keep your eye on it, and so can everyone else. If junior leaves it open for longer than necessary, you can get on him right away.

Put plastic over all the other doors, and don’t remove it until it starts to warm up.

Another way to bring that heat cost down is to simply use electric blankets. I know, I know: it’s still using electricity, but it’s a fraction of the energy used to heat the entire house. When people are up running around, their blood is rapidly flowing, so you can keep the heat turned down a little. At nighttime, there’s no reason to be cold if you have a couple electric blankets around the house.

I’m serious about this one: get a couple dogs. There’s nothing like snuggling up with a big old dog at the end of the day to keep you warm, both physically and mentally!

Air Conditioner Trouble Shooting – Fix The Problem Now!

If your air conditioner is not working fine, air conditioner trouble shooting is what you should consider. The first thing that you should ensure is that your thermostat has been set at a lower temperature than the room temperature. The switch should be turned onto ‘cool’. If it is possible to program the thermostat, make sure that it contains fresh batteries.

The next thing in the process of air conditioner trouble shooting is to check the power by turning the switch of the fan to ‘on’ from ‘auto’. In case, nothing happens, means that the control has been burned or the power has been disconnected. But, if the blower works, it means that the power is there. If your system employs a furnace for the purpose of creating heat, confirm if the emergency button has been switched on.

If you have knowledge about the circuit breaker panel or fuse, look for tripped breakers or blown fuses. Fix up the problem only once. If the problem reoccurs, it is advisable to call for a professional New Jersey HVAC Contractor.

At the time of air conditioner trouble shooting, when the fan is directed to ‘auto’ and selector switch to ‘cool’, turn the thermostat lower than the actual room temperature. If the condenser doesn’t work, but blower does, examine circuit breaker panel. The problem may be with the condenser, if breaker is working properly.

Some of them may have a cut out at a high pressure. This is a button that is stuck outside the cabinet, normally close to the refrigerant lines. Press it inside as long as possible to rearrange it. If both the things are working properly and still there is no cooling, test the bigger copper line present in the condenser.

A warm copper line suggests that either the compressor has turned down or the system is not in function. On the other hand, a cool copper line means there is some kind of problem with the airflow inside like clogged filter and others. A lower charge of Freon also leads to freezing. Shut down the system and allow it to melt completely. In case, after air conditioner trouble shooting, it freezes again, look for a professional.
